Strawberries, Peacocks and a new Doormat..

Hello everyone , how are you ?

Hubby had the week off work due to the fact he was supposed to go for his Skin Cancer check up, unfortunately it was cancelled and is now in July.

So we had a week at home-ish. The allotments got some extra visits and also some absolutely and if i may say the best  tasting Strawberries were brought home. We had some supermarket Strawberries a while ago, the posh ones which apparently are great tasting (not), i found them hard and sour . You can smell the scent of ours and wow they are so sweet.

We probably won't get that many this year as the plants themselves are starting to wear out, but not to worry we will replace them and hopefully have new plants next year. We have had Strawberries and cream , also with Ice cream and to be honest just a bowl on it's own. If we do have any surplus i will make Jam with them or freeze them for puddings later in the year.

On our week at home-ish we decided to go visit the new Grantham Garden Centre at Downtown. It was exactly the same as the old one, prices on certain items had risen but then some had come right down. It was a lovely afternoon just wandering around and oohing and aahing over things, also getting some good ideas for our garden make over.
I spent some time looking at all the garden lights, i mean some are just down right tacky and others were gorgeous with a high price tag to match but i liked them better than the plastic stuff. I found the door mat section and the prices were low, not cheap low but lower than they were before with a bigger selection to choose from, i do need a new one, so i got one. It is probably not everyone's cup of tea but i thought it matched our family vibe.

On Friday we went out for early breakfast with one of  our older girls Heather, we went to Belton Garden Centre, It's nice but you need money and quite a bit of it to do any shopping there, it's ok for  a treat now and again but not a weekly thing . As we arrived the resident Peacock put on a wonderful display and then screamed at me for taking a picture.

Our breakfast cost just over £30 for 3 of us. Not bad i think as we all had Sausage/Bacon Cobs with drinks. It so lovely to just walk around and look at it all, i see lots and lots of absolutely beautiful little things , but i have kept the mindset of do i need it/where would i put it. Plus even the tiniest bits cost a bob or two so i keep my money firmly in my purse. One thing we did buy was a new plant for the pond a Water Mint, never heard of it, but it's big and bushy, bonus is the fish will have shelter and some shade. That is if the don't eat it first.

On the home front, i finally got my new windows put in, it is so amazing how you get used to looking out of condensated window panes. The chaps arrived about 10 and were all done by half past. I have now got sparkly clean windows that don't look like the house is neglected with awful window panes.
It was only 3 panels but you don't realise just how much you miss looking out of window that has no water lurking in the bottom of it and all that condensation building up inside of it. I couldn't wait to get my handy dandy squeegee and wiper out to do them.  It has been driving me potty since January when i first reported them but now they are done and it looks good. The kitchen how ever is not, my ceiling is still that unknown paint colour, and i have been informed that the contractors have 60 days to do it and put it right, not from the 5th of May like you would think but 60 days from when i rang 10 days later to find out exactly what is going on, that will be fun.

My new sofa covers arrived this week , i ordered 2 pieces, both the same colour and style but they arrived in seperate packages ,days apart. Weird how they were dispatched at the same time yet arrived apart. I must admit i did have that moment of pure panic when i opened it up and only one came out, did i order 2 or not click the other one, a quick check saw that yes i had done 2 of them , i had to check the tracking to make sure it was on it's way and it was, so one arrived early in the week and the other on the last day. I gave them a wash and you really should have seen the brown colour that came out in spinner water. Yuk. How ever they are lovely luxurious and look bloody stunning on the sofa. .

They are a nice Chenille in Brown with a little white piping  edge on them. Under £30 for both, now along with my other set i have a new looking sofa every time they need a wash. It is much cheaper than buying a new one and Jack Dog seems to like these ones just as much as the other ones.

If they are Jack Dog approved then they must be ok😁.

We have also been working in the garden and i have decided that the front gate needs a re vamp so i have given it 2 coats of paint and it still needs another but it will look nicer and also protect the gate for a few more years. I took off the brass number and gave that a clean , it will be all shiny again and just top it all off. I still have to decide if i am going to paint the side panels and bit of  fence that link up together, if i don't then it's going to look like it's at odds with each other or do i leave and have it look Unique😆, no i will paint it all so it matches.

We tidied up under the Dining room window area and put all the wood away down the garden and then just put stuff we want to keep in the old greenhouse and the bits we want to skip behind the shed, it's a big pile but it only took half an hour and it looks so much better and not the builders yard it was becoming, the Pergola is definitely coming down, it had rotted in places and has started to sway in the wind which bothers me. I don't fancy having to explain to the council why i need a new window.

The garden is coming on, it's slow as we have so much going on at home and allotment but it will be done by the end of Summer i hope.

So that was my week, a good one , busy but good.
Take care all
Love Ftm🌼
