Defrosting.

Yesterday was the day of days i started to defrost , not Mariah even though i can hear her dulcet tones in the distance , but my upright freezer.
It's not hard work at all, i just let it run right down and then empty the rest into my big chest freezer . I take out all the baskets and wash them and then pop a big bowl of hot water inside and shut the door. The thing that takes a while is the clean up, water everywhere, i know that it is to be expected, i do have 2 very large and old towels that i put down and inside to catch it all but they get soaked through. But on the other hand it is worth it. The freezer will run more efficiently and i can also go through the food and sort it out, i am not the only one who pops things in there and thinks i will have that later and never does.
The only thing i regret is when we bought this was not going an extra £20 and having the frost free version. My big chest freezer is frost free and is running well also my fridge freezer. So if i could give any advice it would be have the frost free one. I defrost mine every 6 months ,i regularly clean it out and also organize everything. Each drawer has a label , this helps me keep on top of everything we have . I can also tell people exactly where stuff is when they need to find bits.
I forgot to take a before picture, but here is the after when it looks brand new and shiny.
I do have a drawer front missing as the holder snapped, we did look into replacing but i was honestly shocked at the price of one , it's a replacement not a whole new freezer, the price was almost the same as buying a new freezer, where do these people come from i ask myself.
You can see my labels ,the open one is for food boxes,pizza, fish pies and that kind of stuff. I have had this freezer for about 4 years now . Still working and still good. We did have insurance on it but we decided to cancel it. One reason was the price kept going up and it was working out at almost £55 a year for just one item, second reason was the company we were with messed me about something wicked last year. My 2 year old Tumble dryer broke down, here is where the shit storm starts. I rang and explained along with the model number, i couldn't get an engineer for a week,fair enough. When he did arrive he didn't have the parts so had to order them again fair enough, i would be contacted within the week to organize an appointment to get it done. I heard nothing for 2 weeks. I rang and they had no clue what i was talking about as he hadn't put it through on the system , thankfully they sent another chap that afternoon. He said " we can't get the parts until next week". Again i was reasonable but my patience was starting to wear very thin. I heard nothing at all for another week. So i rang and was told that because they can't get the parts they will replace it for me, i did ask why they couldn't get the parts as it was only 2 years old and a good make not some generic brand that you will never get parts for, apparently they don't do parts anymore as it's cheaper to replace it than fix it. Now why o why did they not tell me that to bloody start with. I was so angry and honestly upset that a company i had been with for over 20 years treated a loyal customer this way. I had everything insured with them. My husband and i took the decision to cancel it all, we have crunched numbers and for what we were paying out in insurance we can save that and just replace anything that does breakdown and i wont have to wait 4 weeks to get it. Was i unreasonable about it all i don't know but i had had enough, washing drying all over the place and being told they hadn't put my details in was the final straw. So now we have no Insurance on our household items, we will replace them if they breakdown ,and this is why i look after all my appliances, defrosting, regular cleaning and maintenance on them.
So back to my freezer, it is all dry and switched back on ready to have food transferred to it. Fern and i will do that later today.
