Winter Solstice

Hello all,how are you today?
Its the shortest day of the year..sunrise is at 8:13 and sets at 15:48..and also the longest night of the year. Its dark, cold and raining here.On the upside of this is, and yes there is an upside to it..tomorrow will be 1 minute longer.
Its cosy and warm inside with the smell of fresh baked mince pies and fresh laundry being ironed. The smell of christmas and all the beautiful lights and decorations to brighten it all up.

We have had a busy week here..i had to go to the dentist for my filling..walking from one side of town to the other, getting home and having lunch a bit later but still having to get a move on as my son had to go to work earlier and would miss it..i love it when we all eat together and it always slightly strange when one is missing.
The girls and i spent the afternoon wrapping gifts for the grand children and writing cards out.
Yesterday was treat day..we took them shopping..the girls had received some money from grand parents for christmas..so they went and bought exactly what they wanted...i bought what we needed for christmas..goose fat,a big turkey tray, wrapping paper, plus more goodies for us.We went to our fave place to eat Cafe Leo..they all had bacon or sausage sandwiches whilst i just had toast..but it was delicious and more importantly they enjoyed it.
We went to B&M..i was gobsmacked to be honest..they have got rid of a majority of the christmas decorations and gifts already..empty shelves everywhere..also Asda has shrunk down their christmas aisles.
I did manage to get some napkins reduced from £2.50 to 25p..i don't understand why they can't sell them at that price to start with..it was absolutely manic in there.
We  walked home and the sun was shining but chilly..we stopped in the park and had some chips..the seagulls were stalking us for the entire time..we did give them a few.
Got a lovely surprise..Sky have given me a free download of Arthur Christmas..we love this film especially his laugh..so we watched that and just chilled out.

Today is going to be the big baking day..mince pies and tarts galore .I love this time of year..the excitement and the days that are filled with being busy and then chilling out with family to watch a film.
How about you do you like the business and preparations for christmas?
take care all

  2. I've enjoyed watching the nativitys, and attending the school carol concerts etc. They are the things that make Christmas Christmassy for me. Any excuse to watch my children preform is a winner in my books.
Merry christmas to you and yours

  3. It even felt like the longest day of the year. I love snow but winter can be difficult on the spirit. Thank goodness for Christmas. XOXO.
