All things Treacle

Hello all, how are you today?

We are enjoying our first damp day for a while. It was very light rain when i got up and it got heavier and now its just light again. Lets face it the ground needed it.
So i have had a request for the Treacle Scones and Treacle Slow cooker sponge.

Treacle Scones, Makes 8
500g plain flour with 1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp bicarb of soda
1/2 tsp of cream of tartar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp mixed spice
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 and 1/2 tbsp soft brown sugar
50g butter
2 tbsp treacle
250ml milk.

Preheat oven to 200
Grease your tray lightly
Place all the dry ingredients in a big bowl and mix
Use fingers to rub in butter
Add treacle and 200ml milk
Mix to a soft dough, if you have a lot of dry bits at the bottom of the bowl add milk a drop or 2 at a time to mix it all in and together.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board.
Use your hands to pat into a circle about 1" thick
Use a large scone cutter to cut the rounds out.
Place on the tray and bake for 10-12 mins or until golden and well risen.
Cool and enjoy.

Slowcooker Treacle Sponge
Juice of a lemon( i didn't use all of it..maybe a few teaspoons)
3 eggs
200g treacle
135g margerine
65g brown sugar
70g caster sugar
190g s.r flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 tbsp breadcrumbs (fresh)
1 tbsp milk

Mix the margerine, brown sugar, caster sugar, then add eggs and mix until blended.
Add the flour , vanilla ,lemon and milk..keep mixing until a nice batter.
Coat the slowcooker with oil on a cloth or you can use a liner.
I used greaseproof paper and oiled it.
Add the syrup and breadcrumbs to the bottom of the pot.
Pour the batter on top and smooth it down.
Cook for 2 hours on high.
I check mine after a 90 minutes with a skewer and if its clean then i turn the heat down and keep it warm.
Loosen from the pot and then turn upside down onto a plate..i always warm up a little extra treacle and pour over the top..i also poke holes in the sponge to get the syrup all the way in.

So there you go all things treacle.
Enjoy
