Home happenings..

Well its been a while since i did one of these posts ..i have been extremely busy with one thing and another just lately. Our allotment is about to explode produce all over us ,so inside jobs and the little things are being done now before we get inundated.

I have started the Raspberry gin for Christmas gifts.

I picked our Chillies and have now strung them up to dry them ready to be put in oil.
I made Nutty Granola for Iris and myself..this time instead of Honey i used Maple Syrup..this is delicious.
I made a crunchy topped fruit cake for hubby and Sam.
These are for all of us..Choclate Brownies..nearly all gone now .

Above is what my dining room looked like earlier.. Iris and i made a huge Autumn collage..her scissor skills have come on no end and i don't scream inside anymore when she is cutting up paper..i would shudder and want to stop her as i always thought she was going to lose a finger..but no all fingers are intact ,she has gotten better and takes her time.

Fern has been learning to type on my typewriter..this is a first attempt at it..not too bad if i say so myself. This is part of her English work..she had to pretend to be a reporter and report the Death of the Twits..
We are going through our pile of Autumn books and learning all about the Harvest Festival and why it was started..also why the Seasons change from one to the other.I like it as well so i look forward to learning as well as the girls do.
O this little idea was my own..i get tired of having the bin bag disappear into the wheelie bin when its a new bag and then you put the rubbish in whoomp the bag has gone down the bottom..this is just an expander to hold it up..it works great.
I finally finished painting the wooden trellis in the front porch..it doesn't look much but this actually helps keep the wind out the porch and also the rain..
The plants are doing great in the planters..these 2 little bushes were not happy in the back garden so i moved them into to tubs and put them in the porch..i have absolutely no idea what they are but they are about to flower..any ideas ladies what they are?
The do look nice and happy now.
I put up the Autumn wreath as well and also little bits inside as well..
Our Japanese Maple is going the beautiful shade of red.No sign of colour change in the Virginia Creeper yet.
The little cupboard i bought for a few pounds has a flap of wood down the side that i was going to take off..i decided not to and am glad i didn't do it.
My hubby found a hinge thingy and it holds up the flap so now the top of the cupboard ia almost doubled in size..it also creates a little hidey hole for me to store the typewriter and sewing machine as well.

So that is what we have been up to.
How about all of you..have you been busy?

  2. Hard to tell from the photo, but your plants could possibly be hibiscus. I'm busy with a food glut too, cooking apples and damsons at the moment. Just finished the blackberries xx

  3. Dear Sara
I think the plants are probably hibiscus - exotic looking but hardy shrubs with pink, white or blue flowers, often with a deeper colour at the centre of the flower. I have a pink one called 'Woodbridge' and a blue one called 'Oiseau Bleu' (Bluebird). Hibiscus do flower in the late summer - from August onwards.
    Best wishes

  5. I made a batch of the raspberry gin also and then gave the "boozy berries" to my cousin who pronounced them positively delicious! I too think those plants are hibiscus...one of my favorites.
